2014 Summary: Ty Young

TGB client Ty Young completed the 2014 season with the A-level Bowling Green Hot Rods (TAM).  Young hit .252, which was impressive considering he hit only .234 for the first two months of the year.  The Coatesville, Pennsylvania native slugged over .500 for the remainder of the season, and that power led him to be slotted in the cleanup spot 32 times.  The former Louisville Cardinal hit .319 with runners in scoring position and was not fazed by left-handed pitching, as he slugged over .420 against southpaws for the season.

Young will likely begin the 2015 season with the High-A Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Florida State League.  The left-handed hitter will look to build on a strong 2014 campaign, where he flashed both speed – 8 triples and 9 stolen bases – and power.  Young’s versatility in the infield and high on-base percentage seem to be highly valued tools in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization.
